At Fab Academy, learners come together in local workgroups with peers, mentors, and machines. Everyone is then connected globally in an online campus with content sharing and interactive video classes. The individual labs become local hubs fo local participants, which are also supported and supervised regionally by mentors. Knowledge in this course does not run linear, it is the result of multiple global and local interactions.

How can I be part of the Fab Academy Program?

Fab Academy runs in more than 65 Fab Labs, for more than 250 students per year in the largest campus of the world. Students can join from all over the world, meet once a week online and develop real time assignments on their local Fab Labs.

You can, by joining the Fabricademy starting on September 20, 2022.

Fabricademy: Textile & Technology Academy is a transdisciplinary course that focuses on the development of new technologies applied in the textile industry, in its broad range of applications, from the fashion industry all the way to the upcoming wearable market. The 6-month program runs in selected laboratories across the world and it is structured in two phases:

• 3-month intensive learning: 13 weekly online classes by global experts and weekly local trainings and assignments guided by the local instructors.
• 3-month final project development, mentored by local instructors and advised by global experts.

During the whole program, students have full access and guidance to an equipped laboratory. Selected works from Fabricademy students will be showcased at international exhibitions around the world.

Fab Academy is a Digital Fabrication program directed by Neil Gershenfeld of MIT’s Center For Bits and Atoms and based on MIT’s rapid prototyping course, MAS 863: How to Make (Almost) Anything.

The Fab Academy offers a 6 month program on digital fabrication.

The Fab Academy offers Certificates on relevant technical topics, and a Diploma aimed at vocational and technical training. Fab Academy Certificates provide familiarity with technical options and capabilities, hands-on experience, and direction for further study. Each requires, and is evaluated by, developing and documenting projects. They are periodically renewed to reflect best practices. Each Certificate typically requires one week. They are combined in the Diploma, which is roughly comparable to completing MIT’s rapid-prototyping course ‘How To Make (almost) Anything’. Progress is evaluated by skills and projects rather than time or credits.

During this 6 month program, students learn how to envision, prototype and document their projects and ideas through many hours of hands-on experience with digital fabrication tools, taking a variety of code formats and turning them into physical objects.
